CITY OF NEOSHO PUBLIC WORKS - PART TIME RECYCLE CENTER

DEFINITION The purpose of this position is to provide PART-TIME work in the Public Works Department for the Recycle Center to sort, and maintain recyclables and load trailers.  This person also works directly with the public.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives supervision from the Recycle Center Manager.  Exercises no supervision.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES—Important responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Sorting recyclables 2. Good customers service skills 3. Standing lifting for extended periods of time 4. Ability to work in hot and cold environments 5. To keep a clean work space 6. Loading recyclables into a compactor 7. Working around machinery such as forklift and compactor 8. Unloading trailers 9. Ability to lift at least 50lbs 10. Available to work at least 8hrs every Thursday

Other Important Responsibilities and Duties

1. Maintains Recycle into proper receptacles 2. Inspects equipment. 3. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to: 1. Adjust work schedule for emergency weather conditions. 2. Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.  3. Perform heavy manual labor. 4. Ability to regularly work in extreme temperatures such as heat or cold from working outside, along with exposure to moderate to loud noise. 5. Bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, pulling and pushing up to 50 pounds frequently. 6.  Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles and/or vibrations. 7. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. 8. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, and the general public. 10. Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Public Works Department. 11. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: - Making observations - Communicating with others - Traveling to various work locations - Operating and maintaining assigned equipment and vehicles 12. Maintain mental capacity which permits: - Making sound decisions and using good judgment - Determining and avoiding dangerous situations 13. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: - Walking, standing, bending, stooping or crouching for extended periods of time - Lifting or moving moderate to heavy weights - Working under harsh weather conditions - Operating assigned equipment and vehicles 14. Effectively handle a work environment and work conditions which involve: - Exposure to dust, fumes and dirt - Exposure to Inclement weather conditions - Working closely with others and the general public - High levels of noise - Confined spaces - Chemical hazards

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES High School diploma or equivalent.  Driver’s License.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environmental Conditions Travel from site to site; field environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, odors, and inclement weather conditions; could work around heavy equipment.

Physical Conditions Essential and other important duties and responsibilities may require maintaining a physical condition necessary for walking, standing, bending, pushing, crawling, crouching, and lifting heavy objects for prolonged periods of time; and the operation of motorized equipment and vehicles.

Tools and Equipment Tractors, mowers, and a variety of power and hand tools.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

1. Must successfully complete pre-employment substance abuse testing. 2. Will be subject to random substance abuse testing. 3. Will be subject to background investigation.
