NEOSHO CITY COUNCIL DECLINES MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (DED) CDBG-DR GRANT

In a unanimous decision, the Neosho City Council declined to accept the proposed DED Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery at the scheduled meeting of Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

The primary intent of the grant, in final form amounted to $5,386,728, was to provide opportunity for those financially vulnerable victims of repeat flood to move to more secure locations. However, in the opinion of the Neosho City Council, the overall benefit would be for too few in the flood water areas to make a substantial impact on impacted areas.

Furthermore, Neosho City Council considered that identifying and securing funds and assistances for mitigation plans and programs would provide the most long-term benefit to the affected areas. Those grants, funds and programs will be sought after by City of Neosho staff and area assistance agencies.
